The project Map shows your project boundary and every map layer in the project. Map files you upload to Resources appear here on their own; you can also create new layers and draw on them.
Open the Layers panel
Open the project and click Map in the sidebar, then click Layers at the top left of the map. The panel lists Project Extent (your project boundary), the map data you uploaded to Resources, and any datasets you added from the library. Hover a layer to see its tools: zoom to the layer, show or hide it, and the ⋮ layer menu. Layers draw in the order of the list, top first, so drag a layer above an imagery dataset to keep it in view.

Add a layer
Click Add layer in the Layers panel and choose New Layer. Choose New Group instead to make a folder for organising layers.
In Add Layer, enter a Layer name. To load data, drop a GeoJSON, KML or zipped shapefile on Add file (or drag). Leave it empty to start a blank layer you draw on later.
Pick the geometry (Lines, Polygons, Points or Labels), set the line type, colour and width, and tick Show in legend if the layer belongs in the map legend. Click Create.

The ArcGIS Web tab connects a layer from an ArcGIS web service instead of a file.
The layer menu
Click ⋮ on a layer for Settings (colours, line types and thematic styling, plus geometry statistics and fields), Attribute Table, Unlock and edit, Export to file and Delete.

Edit a layer
Layers that come from uploaded files and library datasets are locked. To edit one, choose Unlock and edit, name the editable copy and click Export. The copy appears at the top of the Layers panel; the original is hidden. Click the original’s eye icon to show it again.

Select the editable layer and open Editor tools (the pencil in the toolbar). Add points, lines, polygons and rectangles, Modify or Move features, and reshape them with Smooth polygon, Simplify, Cut by line, Clip and Merge. Undo and Redo sit in the toolbar.

Combine layers
The Tools row under the Layers panel works on whole layers: Merge, Intersect, Union, Clip, Dissolve and Buffer.
Save a map view
Map states in the toolbar save a combination of visible layers, styles and settings. Create one for each view you come back to, switch between them, and share them with your team. The default state is the map shown on the project dashboard.
